Overview
Foster Refrigerator

The pressures on everyone to conserve energy have never been greater.  The cost of energy has increased dramatically along with the need to reduce our impact on the planet.  As a direct result the need to improve the efficiency of our refrigeration systems has also increased with users gaining not only from improved running costs but also by other Government incentives to procure energy efficient equipment.

Reducing Energy Consumption

In order to achieve maximum possible efficiency in a refrigeration system the actual capacity supplied should be as closely matched to the required capacity of the equipment being supplied.  During the normal operation of the equipment the refrigeration load required to maintain a desired temperature will vary as product is loaded into and removed from the equipment.  Traditional on/off refrigeration systems react to this by starting and stopping the refrigeration in an ‘all or nothing’ method.  This increases the number of start and stop operations of the compressor and the associated high start currents ‘spikes’.  This has an additional effect of creating large fluctuations in the operating pressures of the system which it is desirable to maintain at as constant a level as possible to maximum system efficiency.

In an installation where numerous refrigeration loads of varying capacity are required an efficiency improvement can be made by operating these rooms from either a multi compressor pack system or a suitably modified condensing unit.  This ensures that the number of start/stop operations are kept to a minimum and the relevant pressures and parameters are maintained as closely as possible to their desired levels.

This principal can be then moved to the next level and considerable energy benefits over the traditional multi compressor pack or modified condensing unit.  The Low Energy pack system incorporates the latest capacity control technology along with advanced room and condenser controls to create a system matched exactly to the operating load required.  During tests the LE system demonstrated energy savings over a conventional multi compressor pack of around 30%.  This is in addition to the benefits to energy consumption when using a correctly sized multi compressor pack on a suitable installation of this kind over traditional condensing units.
